Nurse ll Day Shift Supervisor shares as a team member under the leadership and in collaboration with the Nurse Manager and reports to the Chief Nurse Executive.
Is responsible for the accountability and management of clinical nursing practice and patient care delivery, the supervision and coordination of activities of nursing personnel in patient care units.
Participates in planning work of assigned units and coordinates activities with other patient care units and related departments.
Ensures that patient needs are met and evaluates unit nursing care and performance.
Is accountable for the management of staff, fiscal and other resources, the development of personnel, compliance with regulatory and professional standards, strategic planning and the fostering of interdisciplinary collaborative relationships within selected unit(s) of responsibility and the health care institution as a whole.
Acts in the capacity of Administrator on duty in the memorandum of transfer of patient(s) to and from health care facility.
Implements Performance and Conduct Management to subordinates when required and assists them to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses.
Employee may work with Patient Safety Work Product (PSWP).
Essential Job Functions:
1.
Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
2.
Supervises direct care staff and ensures the PNA III (NSL) effectively supervises subordinates throughout the patient care areas/units to maintain safe operations and provide quality patient care throughout the facility daily.
3.
Distributes staff to ensure each program has enough staff to function safely daily.
4.
Obtains unit report from charge nurses, accurately conveys information on the supervisor report and provides end of shift hospital report to the oncoming supervisor.
5.
Evaluates direct report staff and implements Performance and Conduct Management when the need arises to promote improvement in conduct and performance.
Completes evaluations for direct reports.
6.
Monitor direct reports to ensure documentation is completed accurately and within the time frame required.
Provides feedback and education if needed and follows up with Performance and Conduct Management if necessary.
7.
Assists Charge Nurses in adapting nursing interventions in both emergent and non-emergent situations; assists staff in altering the plan of care as indicated to meet the needs of the individual and maintain safety.
8.
Assists Charge Nurses in planning work of assigned units and coordinating activities with other patient care units and related departments.
Assists Charge Nurses and other personnel in anticipating and responding to predictable and unpredictable changes in patient conditions to improve the unit milieu and promote safety.
9.
Completes required documents accurately and timely.
Provides other departments and agencies with requested information within the next working day.
10.
Acts in the capacity of Administrator on Duty in the memorandum of transfer when transferring patients to and from health care facility.
11.
Coordinates daily functioning in the Nursing Supervisors Office, participates in hospital committees and completes assigned tasks to improve processes and productivity.
12.
Conducts nurse to nurse contacts regarding admission referrals in the process of transferring patients into the facility.
13.
Conducts daily rounds throughout all hospital units to ensure safety and quality patient care.
Completes refrigerator logs in pharmacy and infection control departments to ensure equipment is operating properly.
14.
Communicates with internal and external customers and performs other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the hospital.
15.
Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation.
Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

Has current knowledge on quality improvement initiatives in data collection, evaluation, and implementation of action plans, assuring quality improvement outcomes are communicated to staff.
8.
Has knowledge of unit staff compliance in understanding and meeting age specific population needs as identified by the unit' scope of service.
9.
Recognizes performance discrepancies of assigned staff and in collaboration with the Nurse Manager and Charge Nurses provides follow-up to identified employees.
Coordinates the preparation of employee evaluation.
10.
Knowledge of program regulations and procedures; of health care laws and regulations; of medical diagnoses, procedures, and accepted medical treatment programs; of community health and nursing care principles, practices, and procedures; and of utilization review and control measures.
11.
Ability to provide patient care; to prepare and maintain records; to organize, coordinate, and evaluate nursing activities; to interpret health care regulations; to recognize patterns of medically necessary treatment; and to supervise the work of others.
Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Licensed to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Texas or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact Initial Selection Criteria:
1.
Licensed to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Texas or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact, Plus three (3) years of work experience as an RN in a recognized health agency, hospital, or health care facility; or a bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited program plus two (2) years of work experience as an RN in a recognized health agency, hospital, or health care facility; or master's degree in nursing from an accredited program plus one (1) year of work experience as an RN in a recognized health agency, hospital, or health care facility.
2.
Supervisory experience preferred is a minimum of one year.

Salary Note:
The salary offered will follow HHS starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the posted minimum of the salary range.
